• More Lighting Ideas

So for a while I was saying to myself after I do this I’m done with the interior, and then something else came up and it was, oh I’ll do that and be done. IE: Leather interior, then XE dash swap, then LED swap, and then auto-dimming mirror. Well after looking at some more Maxima interiors I’ve noticed another lighting mod that I would like to attempt but have no clue where to start. I’m looking to take the kick plates and back light the Altima portion of it. Id like to do cool white to match everything else. Of course with this Id like to pick up Bill’s underdash kit, (02-06 Altima BT Design Footwell Lighting Kit – Lighting & Accessories – Racingline Performance), but I’ve also been throwing around the idea of puddle lighting. I feel if all 3 of these are done it will be overkill. So maybe 1 or 2 at the most would be ideal.

I did try doing some research on the kick plates and came up with squat. I found a semi-recent thread here, (http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/gen…ml#post3877199) where Boost talks about attempting it but like so many other threads here there is no resolution. If you go back a little farther and expand the search outside of the 2nd gen boards you can find this, http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/200…-4th-gens.html, which is what I am looking for. I found these over on NICO for the 4th gen but they are no longer being produced. And as far as I can tell there is no aftermarket for these for us. And that goes for aluminum kick plates as well as illuminated ones. Hell, even trying to track down a spare set of OEM kick panels has proved extremely difficult. I’ve checked Courtesy Nissan, eBay, and Rock Auto with no luck.

I’d like to do puddle lighting but I’m afraid of the durability of them. The roads around me are not the best and I do my best not to scrape on anything. I avoid certain lanes and if I am in unfamiliar territory I take any and all entrances as shallow as possible and as slow as possible. Luckily for me when I’m in these situations I am usually with other lowered and modified cars and I just follow their line.

And lastly Bills kit is a tried and true addition. Everything I have read about it is nothing but spectacular reviews and ease of installation. But once again I’m afraid of going over the top. My car is not a show car, nor do I want it to be. I try to keep a low profile, although being the only modified Altima around here makes that a little difficult. My ultimate goal has always been a cleanly done car that is unique, but not so unique that it looks out of place. So I guess I’m looking for input on how feasible the kick plates actually would be. Would kick plates from a Maxima or Sentra fit? And if it could be done what would you pair it with? Puddle lighting or under dash? Keep in mind I already have the LED interior lights.

  • Brakes "Grabbing"

I was hoping for some insight and opinions on the following brake issue I am having:

    2007 Altima, ~58,000 miles

    The symptoms are as follows:
    1) When the brake pedal is initially depressed (during a normal stop), normal braking seems to occur.
    2) If at any time after the pedal is initially depressed, pedal pressure is even slightly lessened (50% pedal travel let’s say, back to 40%), a knock or kick is noticed against the pedal (pushing back slightly against the foot pressure)
    3) Subsequently, if the pedal is not fully released, but is depressed again (40% back to 50% for example), the brakes grab very hard and braking is 2-3 times more forceful than normal as the pedal is depressed.
    4) Releasing the pedal all the way restores the brakes to normal (with the same sequence occurring again the next time the pedal is depressed)

I have reviewed the following and done the following troubleshooting to try and figure this out:
    1) Verified brake fluid between Min and Max on MC reservoir
    2) Verified ABS cycling at 5mph upon initial startup; no ABS light lit and no codes saved
    3) Verified no calipers are sticking; no abnormal wear or coloration seen at the rotors or pads
    4) Verified vacuum at manifold (21 inHg @ idle), and verified no leaks between booster and manifold
    5) verified booster is at least operating (check valve is ok, pedal is different vacuum vs non-vacuum)

    - Disconnecting the ABS harness did not change the problem (dash lights lit and no speedo, so verified ABS not in the loop)
    - Disconnecting the booster vacuum line does make the problem go away; obviously the pedal is very firm, but no kick is felt and no change in braking occurs with pedal travel.

    - The dealer insisted on replacing front pads and rotors, to no avail (I should have known better…). I suspect the booster is bad at this point, but have never heard of one failing in this manner.

    Any thoughts?

  • 03′ cigarette lighter replacement

    Hi,
It seems like both my cigarette lighters went south. the one on the dash went first and then the one inside the hand-rest.
I will check the fuses first and replace if need be.

How do I go about replacing the cigarette lighters without breaking anything?

    Thanks in advance,

  • New Member 2010 Altima– in Canada

Hello, I am a new member, I just purchased a new 2010 Altima 2.5SL. I live in New Brunswick Canada and am retired from Air Canada. One of the reasons I joined this forum was to get info on oil and filter opionions, I am also a member of the "BoB Is The Oil Guy"forum. When reading the manual the oil change requriments for the Altima seem a lot more frequent than my old Honda Accord. I love this car and the only thing I wish it had was a Oil Life Monitor like most of the new cars available today. With modern oils 3 months 0r 6000 kilometers {3600 miles}seems a little excessive. The dealership I bought from uses conventional oil or Mobil 1 synthetic but they say if you don’t change oil every 3 months or 6000 kms regardless of type of oil it will void the warranty. I can’t imagine the US has the same oilchange intervals.

Sorry for rambling on and I welcome peoples thought on this subject

I just purchased a new 07 Altima, it has Continental AS Tires, and they are for the summer….I’m looking to purchase new Rims and Snow Tires…Is it better to have all season tires, or have two different sets, one for summer and one for winter…and on the 07 i need to get a new set of rims also…would I be able to have one set of rims and two different sets of tires (summer and winter) or would I just be better off going for all season tires.
